From the dawn of time humans have been running. What started out as a means of avoiding predators and catching prey evolved into one of the most effective forms of exercise and healthy body maintenance today. One question that science is attempting to answer is if human evolution is partly a product of running. Is the design of our bodies due to the need of our ancestors to run? An interesting question best left to science for study.
As other means of hunting, protection and transportation evolved, the need for running was decreasing. Much similar to a 16 year old who gets their drivers license may not touch a bicycle again for years. What is it that drives people to run for sport, marathon or exercise? Probably one of the most important reasons that people run is because it is fun.
Plain and simple, running is a great way to stay in shape, achieve personal goals, and even fulfill competitive needs. But most of all, people run because they enjoy it. From personal experience I can say that running is a great way to burn off a day’s stress and actually relax. Doesn’t that sound ironic? Exercise is great way to reduce stress and learn to relax the body and running is one of the best methods for this.
Running is essentially an independent sport with a few exceptions like relay races etc. It can be done almost anywhere during many seasons. The beauty of running is the total freedom that is felt from the simplicity of running. You can run with a group or by yourself and either way one can be left to themselves and their thoughts. Not to say that it is an isolationist’s exercise, but it is a scientific fact that people regenerate their physical and mental capacities when they are alone.
Much like a form of meditation, running allows us to focus on our thoughts while at the same time reduce stress, worry and anxiety. If you don’t believe me, try being furious or even angry after a good run. One of the reasons for this reduction of stress is the bodies’ release of endorphins while performing exercise. These endorphins are released during long continuous workouts and running is the best example of this type of workout.
But in order to make the most out of your running, you need the right equipment and this will include shoes. Whether you need wide running shoes or average running shoes, you need to find the best trail running shoes to ensure that you get something comfortable and durable for your runs.
With all these benefits it is no wonder why people still choose to torture themselves by running. Actually, it’s not torture at all. It’s great for the body, mind and gives many a reason to stare at us in confusion. See you on the track.
