Name badges, also known as identification cards, are nothing new to the office setting.  They’ve long been used as an easy identification means among employees, but growing popularity of the id badge is due to increased technology in the workplace.  No longer are id cards strictly being used for identification purposes.  They are now doubling as security swipe cards that allow the user to access a computer or pass through a security checkpoint.  Because of this, it has become critical that an id badge is protected well.

A name badge holder comes in many different makes, but the most common one you’ll come across is the plastic badge holder.  These holders are often given to workers by an employer because they are the most cost effective option on the market.  Soft plastic holders work well if you’ll be spending the majority of your time working inside at a desk.  Because they are prone to bending and tearing, soft plastic holders are not the best pick for jobs where physical activity plays a large role in daily work.  For these types of jobs, a hard plastic holder that is much more durable should be the choice.  These holders will neither bend nor tear.

For physical labor jobs, another nice type of holder is the metal badge holder.  Although it will come at a higher cost, a metal holder can withstand almost any abuse that is thrown at it.  For someone who is concerned about keeping their id badge in pristine condition, this type of holder should definitely be a consideration.  Metal holders are also a nice attention grabber in comparison to a plain plastic holder.

If added attention and a touch of fashion is your goal, then a leather badge holder is probably what you’re looking for.  While they won’t protect as well as their metal counterparts, a leather holder is a step above plastic as far as protection goes.  They are also worlds apart when considering the fashion aspect of wearing a badge holder.  Plastic holders are bland and won’t set you apart from other worker’s like a leather holder will.

Your selection of a badge holder should depend on what your work position is and your sense for fashion.  Plastic holders are nice for those who aren’t worried about the look of a holder and spend the majority of their time doing desk work.  Metal and leather holders are other nice alternatives for added protection and fashion.
