ist1_1870468-washbasin-holeWhen shopping for a cloakroom sink, there are a few different styles that you have to consider, as well as cloakroom sink units.  In this post I want to take a look at all of these different choices so you can pick the one that is a perfect fit for your loo.

The most common style of sink is the wall mounted variety.  These are secured to the wall and drain from the bottom back into the wall that they are mounted to.  If this is what is already installed in your bathroom, installing a new one is the easiest way to keep this project simple.  They, like most cloakroom sinks, are usually white and ceramic with a spot for the tap and hot/cold handles.

Another common type of sink is the pedestal sink.  These are attached to the ground with a long ceramic pillar.  The biggest downside of these is the lack of storage space, but cloakrooms don’t need too much of that!  Many times these drain into the floor, so it’s tough to install a different type of sink because it require routing the plumbing back into the wall.

Corner cloakroom sinks are becoming trendy right now.  The hot ones are long rectangles that take up hardly any space at all, and have a clean and modern look to them.  There is a big drawback to this style of sink, they are so small and shallow that whenever you wash your hands you end up splashing water all over the floor.  Instead try a deeper sink in this style.

Cloakroom sink units are also an easy choice because you get the sink as well as some storage space beneath.  This allows you to focus your efforts on other things in there, rather than the style of your cloakroom sink.  Most units don’t come with taps, so you’ll have to buy that separately.

Upgrading your cloakroom sink shouldn’t be a chore.  Now that you know the difference in styles and more information, you are well on your way to making a purchase of the perfect sink!
