You will always be impressed by a blue gemstone, although it is not uncommon as you might think, there are several types of blue gemstones and today we will talk about two of them. You might be familiar with blue topaz which is actually fairly affordable. The reason is that most of the topaz you see in shops is actually grey or colourless topaz that has been artificially enhanced to appear blue. Real blue topaz is rare and can only be found in Texas while grey/colourless topaz is rather common. Other expensive types of topaz will be orange and pink. Topaz is a good gem for rings as it is a rather hard stone and not very likely to suffer from cracks and other damage. You will still have to be careful as with all gemstones, topaz is quite sensitive to harsh chemicals which can ruin it. Always remove your topaz jewelry even when you apply your hairspray or perfume.
You might think that turquoise come from Turkey but in reality, even in ancient times, it was mined in Iran but had to cross Turkey to reach Europe, therefore Europeans mistakenly thought it came from that country. It still comes from Iran now but mines have also been found in Australia, Egypt, China and the USA. It is quite unlike most gemstones as it is not a transparent gem but its colour blue can be stunning. It is also quite porous and soft therefore ensure that it is properly coated especially if you want to wear it on a ring. You will also find that lots of turquoises found on the market are composite which means several small stones put together and sealed to form a bigger stone. Ensure that you know what type of turquoise you are buying, as if you have a ring with a composite you will have to remove it even when you wash your hands, unfortunately water can enter in the small cracks between small stones and ruin it. Always do some research online before buying any turquoise jewelry and only go to a reputable retailer or jewelry who is prepared to give you all the information you need to know.
