Buying furniture for toddlers is often a daunting task for new parents. That’s because there are countless choices and options. But it doesn’t have to be hard at all. To get started as a new parent, keep in mind that all your children basically need is a place for sleep, work and play – not necessarily designer furniture.
Parents are often tempted to buy cute toddler furniture that resembles real-world items such as a fire engine or comic figures. Unfortunately, these items come with a higher price tag and may not scale well when your children outgrow the furniture sets. It is often advisable to stick with more generic beds or chairs that can be individually decorated. Many of these generic furniture items are part of a system that can be re-used. For instance, my son’s changing top can be turned into a chest of drawers after he learns to get along without diapers.
You can still change the furniture sets of your toddler to adapt to your child’s growth phase and personal taste. With a few tricks I was able to customize my son’s bed and make it look like a great place for sleeping. It certainly pays off to buy items that cost a bit more but in two year time you will benefit from the savings.
Many furniture items for children can be easily upgrades. This includes deluxe rockers or down-scaled tables and chairs which can be adjusted as needed when your child get older.
It is very important to buy quality items for your children. If the furniture products are well made, you can easily re-sell them for profit later, give them to to your friends or even keep them for your next child. Another aspect of course is the security. More expensive items are generally more solidly built and your children will have more fun with them.
