So you’re a busy business owner or manager, and don’t have a ton of extra time for anything or anybody, but the boss or board just asked you to track down a new commercial insurance provider as soon as possible.  Just great; now what do you do?

First step is to determine exactly what kind of insurance you’re looking for; is it just for the cars and trucks your company owns?  If so your search will probably head in the direction of van fleet insurance.  If you need coverage of not just vehicles, but also property, buildings and people you will want to get a variety of commercial insurance quotes.  Grr, why can’t they have the Admin Assistant do this?

You probably will want to give your current insurance agent a call and let him or her know you are going to be doing some checking around on price.  They will probably want the opportunity to save your business and should offer to look over your current policy and make price adjustments.  Because you are already a client, they should be able to do this rather quickly while you look at other options.

Since you will most certainly have a few friends in business around you area, give them a call and ask who they recommend for business insurance.  Like many things a personal recommendation is a very good thing in your search.  You can also go online and look for some of the more popular insurance companies and fill out forms to get a quote.  Don’t forget to also consider a local insurance broker that will be able to deliver several quotes at a time based on your needs.

While trying to find a new commercial insurance provider can be a real pain in the neck, it WILL end up saving you a little coin.  And won’t that make you look good to your boss?
