One easy way to conceal your computer, and consequently conceal you, while you surf the web is to use proxies. Proxies act as a liaison between you and the rest of the internet. When you surf the web through a pr0xy, any web server you connect to cannot track the computer you are using, nor record your IP address.
For example, you could connect to the internet through a proxy in Sweden even though you could be in the United States. Any web server you connect to will record that your location is Sweden. In addition, the more proxies you use, the better anonymity you have. The more proxies you connect and surf through will make you effectively undetectable.
The steps for setting up a proxy for Microsoft Internet Explorer are simple.
First, locate a proxy host. You can do this by conducting a search via Google, MSN, or what have you. Next, type in the keywords “Proxy List” (or equivalent). When viewing the list of proxy servers, locate one that is labeled “anonymous”.
After you have found the proxy server that you would like to use open Internet Explorer. Then, navigate to the “tools” option and select Internet Options. Next, click on the “Connections” tab. Then, click on the “LAN Settings” button.
After you have clicked on the “LAN Settings” button locate “Proxy Servers”, and then select the box that reads “Use a Proxy Server for you LAN”. Next, copy the IP address from the list of proxy servers that you located earlier, and paste that set of numbers into the “Address” area. Lastly, copy the port number and paste that number into the “Port” area. Then, click “Ok” twice. Now, you all set to start browsing while using a Proxy Server.
There are alternative techniques that allow you to use a proxy when you want to. This eliminates the need to change the proxy settings in your browser. Some of these proxy services cost, but most are free. Rather than changing the settings in your browser you just navigate to the proxy server’s web page. At the proxy’s home page you then type in the URL that you wish to navigate to. This proxy service allows you to still browse anonymously through the proxy and loads the web page that you are trying to view into your browser window. Even when you click on links while browsing your anonymity remains intact.
