Horse people love hats. Whether the hat is their favorite show hat or their favorite barn hat it doesn’t matter. Every horse person I know has a favorite hat. If they ride western, they may have a favorite cowboy hat to wear to the barn every day. Or they may have one ‘lucky’ cowboy hat that they always hit the show ring wearing. If they’re an English rider, they may have a specific Hunt hat that they must wear into the show ring. If they’re out at the barn training or just riding they may wear a ball cap or an Australian hat. They might even wear a wide brimmed gardening hat on those bright sunny days for a quick trail ride or routine barn maintenance. My favorite hat is a baseball cap, given to me by a friend, that says MSP Farrier on it. It’s dark with a wide, curved brim that keeps out the rain and sun. Horse people always have a favorite hat that they love to wear.

Hats can also make a great horse gift. Hats are great for keeping out the sun and the rain while riding and training. They are a must for simple barn chores and just about any activity related to horses and their care. I don’t know a single horse person that shows horses that doesn’t get a thrill when they’re given a new show hat that matches their new show clothes. Horse people can also never have too many baseball caps, especially the ones with the wide, curved bill. With baseball caps it’s best to try to either make the decals match their riding discipline or their breed preference. Some have just cute cartoonish characters, quotes, or horse related sayings on them. Whatever type of hat it is, horse lovers are normally thrilled to get one as a gift.
