Often times, when you look at your vegetable garden, you can see a clear way that you want people to move through it. But you cannot get that clear line of movement without physically instructing the visitor how to move, so if you want to avoid doing that, you can build a garden path to provide that guidance for you. When someone sees a path of any sort, they automatically know exactly the right way to go, as it seems that moving off the path would be inherently wrong in a subconscious sort of way. That is why a path is the best way to ensure success with showing off your garden.

But what if your garden is relatively small, and you do not think that a path going through it would do any good? Although the name of this kind of walkway is a “garden path”, it does not necessarily have to go straight through your garden. You can have a path from your house that leads to the garden, instead of through it, or be creative and install a circular path. Because of the way that paths are installed, you can do it in virtually any way you want without any problems. If you were able to start a successful garden, there is no question that you can do the same with this kind of path.

Admittedly there are some things that are different about a garden path than the actual garden, so if you think you might have problems with installation, there is no problem with getting someone to help you. Instead of hiring out, you should find a friend who has done this kind of thing before. It is not labor intensive, although it can take a fair amount of time, and utilizes many garden tools, which is why I advised against hiring someone to do it for you. Just get someone to show you the basics of installation, and then you can take it from there.
