The hCG diet enables dieters to lose weight rapidly by eating only 500 calories a dag without hunger, fatigue or discomfort, according to its founder, Dr. Albert T. Simeons. Human Chorionic Gondroitin was first used on a medical context for treating testicular problems in boys and fertility problems in women. Simeons found the hormone could be used in a dietary context as an appetite suppressant. Subsequent diet protocols developed after Dr. Simeons made use of pure and homeopathic hCG oral drops in addition to (or in replacement of) traditional injections. The difference between pure and homeopathic versions of the hormone should be carefully examined.
Pure, or “Real” HCG
Pure hCG is produced by women in the early stages of pregnancy. The “pure” adjective is used to distinguish it from homeopathic hCG, which is heavily diluted. Pure hCG can be administered through injections or taken orally. Since injections can be placed directly in sites of accumulated fat, less of the hormone is needed than would be the case with oral drops. The standard daily dose for hCG injections recommended by Simeons was 125 IU. Modern hCG diet authorities recommend 150 to 175 IU of oral hCG drops. Needless to say, many diets still prefer the oral version due to their aversion to needles.
Homeopathic HCG
Homeopathic hCG, also known as HHCG, is diluted thousands of times to the point of being almost entirely water. The homeopathic process of “potentization” involves diluting a medicinal substance repeatedly and shaking it between dilutions. Homeopaths claim that the water acquires the biochemical effects, or “essence” of the processed substance at its original dose. Critics contend that this is scientifically impossible, and it’s certainly true that few mainstream doctors would ever go on record to endorse homeopathic medicines. However, many dieters in hCG forums have claimed to have great success with HHCG. The best advice from forum members who’ve tried both is to give homeopathic and non-homeopathic versions a week-long test for each, then compare their effectiveness.
