Mentoplasty and chin augmentation all relate to one thing: chin implants.  A chin implant is most often desired to improve the appearance of one’s self.

The implants that are used in the facial area are most often made of silicone.  They can be sized and shaped in whatever way you may need.

During this procedure the patient will be under through the use of general anesthetics.  The incisions will be under the chin or in the mouth.  This is what will be opened so that the implants can be inserted.  Often additional liposuction procedures will accompany a chin implant so that the face can be given its symmetrical appearance.  The implant will be attached to the bone structure through the use of screws.

After the surgery the patient may experience discomfort while talking or smiling.  This is normal because of the bruising in chin region.  After a week you can have the stitches removed from the incisions.  A follow up will occur later to see if the implant has attached to the bone correctly to see if there needs to be any additional surgery to fix any issues.

Like any surgery there can be complications.  Sometimes there is scarring where the incision was made, there may be bleeding, and in rare cases there is infection.  Most of these issues have decreased with the advancements in technology and new innovations surgeons are using.

A chin implant may be just what you need to make you more attractive to the opposite sex.  Make sure you check with your health insurance to see if the procedure is covered.  In most cases cosmetic surgery for your appearance is not covered.  Recent research has suggested the average price for a chin implant being around two thousand dollars.  Although, depending on the type of procedure it could be less or more expensive.
