I have a feeling that most people who get a burger press as a gift probably stuff it into the cabinet, only for it to be sold a few years later at a garage sale. This is unfortunate because it is a very useful tool, when used properly. It’s not tough to figure out how to use a burger press, and once you do you realize that they are excellent gadgets that help you cook the perfect burger, every time. In this post I want to break down for you why this is so important in the hopes that you will pull yours out of the cabinet, dust it off, and fire up the grill!
If you’ve ever eaten a great burger at a restaurant, you know that they are probably doing something different than what you do at home. It’s not because there is a great chef in the back turning these burgers out, it’s because they consistently cook the same size burger every time and can make minute adjustments to make it better. The only way to get results from these small adjustments is by using consistently the same size patties. What I’m getting at is that they use a commercial burger press to get the patties, and you can do the same at home.
Having consistent patties is a great way to get started, but there are other benefits to these as well. Making burgers from fresh ground beef is the best way to do it, but smashing them out on your kitchen counter is very unsanitary. A burger press keeps everything contained in the press, rather than flinging raw beef goo all around your kitchen. Also, their uniform size makes them very easy to stack with patty paper for quick preparation and getting them onto the grill.
Burger presses are extremely useful tools that everyone who loves to barbecue should use. It’s just one of many tools that helps you get better results in the kitchen!
