Shopping for a new bra may seem like a simple task but in fact there are so many different types of bras available, it can be difficult knowing where to start. Most women will have a few different styles of bras for different occasions and outfits and will pick and choose to suit the situation.
Everyday bras come in many different styles, colors and fabrics. They will be used most of the time by most women and should be comfortable as well as supportive. There are various different styles such as t-shirt bras which are seamless and do not show under tight clothing and push up bras which make the most of whatever cleavage you have.
Strapless bras are suitable for wearing under strapless tops, halter necks or evening wear that reveals a lot of the shoulders and back. All the support comes from the strap around the back rather than the straps, so it is extra important to get a good fit.
Sports bras are very supportive bras suitable for exercise like running and aerobics and other activities where your body will be moving a lot. These are essential to prevent sagging and damage of breast tissue and come in a range of different support levels for different activities.
Maternity bras are worn during pregnancy when the breast size increases and women need more support than usual. They will generally cover more of the breast than the everyday bra style and should feel very comfortable and supportive. It is also possible to buy nursing maternity bras that can be worn after the baby is born and have easy access for breast feeding.
Sleep bras are extra comfortable bras that can be worn at night for women with larger breasts or pregnant or nursing mothers who feel that they need some support at night. They do not usually provide enough support during the day for normal use but women with smaller breasts may find they provide sufficient support and are more comfortable than regular bras.
